Has anybody ever heard of, or seen a Sun Coupe without the 1/2 vinyl top. I have a Suncoupe and the codes seem to indicate a painted top.It is down to bare metal and I dont see any signs of it ever having a vinal top or molding, the correct holes for suncoupe emblem are there. Was it possible to order it without the vinal top? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Dave, the 1972 Buick Engineering Features Manual indicates the Sun Coupe package was available for the Skylark 350 coupe. It consisted of the folding vinyl sun roof, and the gold-colored Sun Coupe nameplate on the sail panel. Bright gold or bright red floor carpet could be ordered with the Sun Coupe option.
The vinyl top with matching color and grain is listed as an option available with the Sun Coupe package, so apprently the Sun Coupe cars were available w/o the vinyl roof.
Also, the folding vinyl sun roof alone was available as an option on the Skylark, Skylark Custom, and GS hardtop coupes.
One thing to note, this manual was printed ahead of the model year, so things could have changed in actual production. To see the info, look at ebay item #1851346970 for the manual.
