    jg engine code in a 1963 Buick skylark?

    jg engine code in a 1963 Skylark what does this mean? it a v-8 for sure 215? also my VIN # is 3J1555821 thanks for any help on this. Ken

    215 was the only v8 available in 1963 for the A-body cars.

    check block with a magnet, it should be aluminum and the magnet will not attach to it.

    this is the last year for Buick production of the 215

    HOWEVER Buick to produce v6s and v8s based on this design ( taller deck, cast iron blocks and larger displacements though ) well into the late 80s.

    AND Buick sold the 215 designs and tooling to Land Rover/British Leyland. Rover kept this engine in production until ~2004 with the same deck height, trans pattern and aluminum block / heads / intake. Rover metricized this and called them everything from 3.5L ( for the original 215ci displacement ) up to a regular production 4.6L engine. 5.0L v8s can be found, but from other Brit makes like the TVR.

    want to know how to send you a picture of id tag?

    happy to respond with a picture don't know how to send you a picture of my id tag i am fairly certain it's a 215 magnet doesn't stick to block but i will send it to you if you tell me how to do it. Thanks Ken

    open an account on an image hosting service like photobucket or google, get your pic uploaded to that and then link it here using the 'Insert Image' button ( looks like a tiny pic of a tree ) in the toolbar that pops up when you're entering your post.
