I purchased a 70 GS, but need assistance,.... Buford26 can u assist again?????

I bought a 70 GS, and verified it is a real GS, (Thanks again Buford26). But I have an engine issue,..... I could not find the production number nor the number that would match the VIN on the engine. It is a Buick 350. The engine code # is 468 ZB, and after researching, I believe its a 350 from a 1974 buick? Is this correct? History of the vehicle; They guy I bought from stated that he put a battery and gas and did nothing else with it. he got the car from a teenager who's Grandmother gave it to him. The kid, not know what he had, primer the whole car over the original paint. I was scratching the primer off with my own finger nails. The color is harvest gold. Anyways, I heard that back in the 70s, that when an engine went out, the dealerships just dropped a new engine because it was cheaper. Is this true? Also, where can I research this car, I want to know the history of it, if in fact a new engine was put in. I don't want to pay $40+ to get a one page report on this vehicle. I rather pay more $$ to get a history of it, services done, etc. It runs like a champ, and as soon as they deliver it, I will look for the options build sheet. I will restore it to its original glory! Thanks for the assist.

You are correct that ZB is a production code for a 1974 350. As far as the vehicle history, the only way to get that is by tracking down the previous owners. Most states won't release the owner history on a vehicle (if they have it) due to privacy concerns, so you will have to try and work back from the guy who sold it to you. Based on the VIN of the car, Wayne Roberts of the GS Historical Society might be able to provide so information based on the factory documentation, but what happened after the car left the factory will be from previous owners only. This link has Wayne's contact number:

Buick did have a replacement engine program to replace failed engines, see this post:

Also, the build sheet or the Wayne Roberts documentation should have the original dealer listed. If you are lucky, the dealer will still be in business and have some information on the car.

I believe that my car had an engine that was swapped at the dealership. Most of the car seemed to be set up for the 250 I-6, however it was a 350-2 car according to the dealer's bill of sale. No doubt that dealers would swap out an entire engine if there was a big problem.

When I tracked down the dealer, they had destroyed all records that old and frankly didn't care about my old car... (No money in it for them to help me out)
