    I'm a newbie, need help decoding a 70GS 350,...

    Hi everyone, I am intrested in buying a 70GS 350. The following is the protector plate info;
    GS Body plate.jpg

    Also, I am trying to find out how I can tell if the engine is the original 350GS? I know where to find the numbers, but the guy over the phone only gave me a "4b8" that he saw on the left side manifold by the two front sprk plug. I want to make sure that that its a numbers matching car. Does the engine numbers must match the last 6 digit vin number?

    Any info is greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks.

    William.

    The picture shows the body tag. The protect-o-plate is a usually found attached to some paper work located in the glove box.

    ST 70 43437 FL1 151161 BDY
    TR 128 58 B PNT
    01B

    ST = style

    70 = 1970 model year

    43437 = Fisher body style number
    4 = Buick
    34 = GS
    37 = 2-door hardtop coupe

    FL1 = body built at Flint, MI
    151161 = body sequence number

    TR = trim
    128 = Black Vinyl trim

    PNT = paint
    58 = Harvest Gold Metallic paint
    B = Black vinyl top

    01B = body build date = January (01) 1970, second week (B)

    The engine serial number should be the number 4 (4=Buick) and then the last 8 digits of the VIN, so it should be about 40H21xxxx in your case. See these links for more info:
