Thread: 1965 Super Wildcat Engine and VIN #s

    Smile 1965 Super Wildcat Engine and VIN #s

    I own a 65 Super wildcat with Vin # 466675H946914 and Engine # LX4465H937725

    What is the formula regarding matching #'s?

    Do the last few digit of the VIN and the engine need to match necessarily or are there exceptions?

    The car has been sitting for a long time and I don't think given its provenance the engine has been changed at any time.

    Thanks

    normally, the last 7 digits of the VIN matches the last 7 of the EIN. it's possible that your engine got swapped on the assembly line for some reason but you would think that if it happened in the factory that the EIN and VIN would be a little bit closer.

    4 66 67 5 H 946914
    4 = Buick
    66 = Wildcat Custom
    67 = 2dr convertible
    5 = 1965
    H = Flint, MI build
    946914 = sequential production #

    LX 4 46 5 H 937725
    LX = 360hp / 465lbft / 10.25:1 CR / 2 x 4v carburation / 425 ci << top of the line motor
    4 = Buick
    46 = ?
    5 = 1965
    H = Flint, MI
    937725 = sequential production #

    the dual 4 barrel setup is EXTREMELY desireable and always has been. it's very possible that someone saw an opportunity to snatch one of these motors out of another car and swapped this prior to 1970. be aware of this if you ever decide to sell the car. just the intake and carb setup on this is worth quite a bit, even if it isn't 'numbers matching'.

    That is NOT a numbers matching engine.. The serial portion of the V.I.N will be the same as the serial on the engine. so your last 6 digits of the V.I.N are 946914 and the serial number stamped on the engine 937725 must match. if not the engine is from a different car. might want to mention that in your Ebay auction. I'm gonna have to agree with Mr. Gibbs on this.
    Both of my '65 Super 'Cats have matching VIN numbered LX code blocks in them.
