Buick stopped using 3800 pushrod engine in new models

Hello everyone,

They stopped using it because they didn't want to put any more money in an older design. While it did great in real world drivability and gas mileage, a smaller boosted engine does better on epa tests and fits in more models so they went that route.
The 3.6 is not a bad engine, but will not have the long term durability of the 3800 and is much more expensive and harder to work on. But that is true with most newer engines. For instance timing chains seem to need replacing on the 3.6. Timing chains will cost hundreds of dollars and require dropping the engine. On a 3800 they will last pretty much its whole life and cost less than $100 and can be replaced in the car.

Thank you!
