Our 300 V8

Here are some pics of the engine. In two weeks we will pick up the 1964 Buick engine with aluminium heads and intake to save some weight.

The Rochester 2GC is from a 1966-67 Pontiac, I decoded the tag.

i don't think i mentioned, Rovers and Buick / Olds / Pontiac 215s don't share your transmission bell pattern. they all have a special pattern which was introduced with the Buick 215 and which has only been associated with the aluminum block.

your 300ci uses the ( slightly ) more common BOPC bell pattern.

so Rover transmissions are useless to you without an adapter plate.

I know. We have a 400, it is a good 3 speed. I have experience in rebuilding a TH350, so it would not be an big problem if the 400 is not working right to look inside.
The rear end is 3.55. It is a good combination. I don't think we will switch to a 4 speed or a longer ratio rear end like 3.27 or 3.08.

if the TH-400 doesn't work out, the popular swap is the 200r4.

they seem to have all been made with a dual pattern bell ( Chevy / BOPC ) and are approx the same length as a TH-400.

So we picked up the 1964 Buick engine with trans in Bavaria. It was great to see many friends and Club brothers when we was there for two days.

Ready for disassemble. After cleaning and maybe some porting the heads and intake will go on the engine in the Corvair.

The valves were hitting the pistons on all cylinders

hunh.

does it look like the timing chain jumped a tooth?

or is it possible someone has rebuilt this engine with different pistons? that looks AWFULLY close to a Zero Deck, Flat Top piston combo. i would think that would indicate the 'LP' style 10.25:1 pistons rather than the 9.0:1 pistons of the 'LL' two barrel. or aftermarket pistons.

anyways, it looks like somebody is getting a new set of valves.

I started cleaning the heads, it is work in progress.
I'm waiting for the header flange to port match these two parts.
Maybe I will do a port match on the intake side too.
There was much carbon everywhere and you can see some very small rough spots.
