Hello out there! We have just pulled the motor out of my 1950 buick sedanette 248 cubic inch. Has any one had any experience in boring out the cylinders.? We are hoping to bore it out to 3 7/32 inches., but are a little shy about doing that much. I would like to know if this is feasible and successfull Thanks Vern t

The 320, 263 and 248 all have wall thickness of approximatly .350 perhaps a little more or less. These engines don't seem to have much core shift, so, with a stock bore of 3.094 and you want to go 3.218 that leaves a bore out of .125 or .060off the wall. This means that wall thickness will be .290, you're way safe. I've bored my 263 .240 which leaves a wall of .210 and its good. The only thing to maybe watch is the bores are not concentric with the cumbustion chambers, they are pulled togather under the intake valves in pairs,so the edge of the piston could just hit the edge of the chamber when going this big. Relieve the piston where it hits, if it hits, and your good to go. alleycat
