According to the Buick Carburetor chart in the reference section the carbs for related applicatoins from 50 to 53 are the same:

I've just finished rebuilding a 1953 263 and will drop it into my '51 Special tomorrow.
I have 1951 and 1953 carbs. Is there any notable difference? If not, I'll put the '51 carb on the '53 engine because I rebuilt it awhile back.
Thx,
Dave

Thanks for the info Bob - the carbs look the same, but I thought I'd check because of the slight compression increase with the piston and head modifications for 1953, I thought there was a possibility they may be jetted different. I'm dropping the rebuilt engine in today.

A dealer service bulletin which came out during the '51 model year provides some more detail. All Buick carbs were redesigned to improve stalling tendencies during cool humid conditions. The late '51 code numbers in the attached bulletin were carried over into '53 for Series 40. So jetting in the idle circuits is a bit different for early '51 vs the '53 carbs.

Thanks! That's great info! I'll have to check if my '51 carb is an early or updated one. Up until the engine spun a rod bearing, I never had stalling problems. If it's the early one, I'll rebuild my 1953 carb and use it.
