have parts, install remaining pistons rings. broke another oil ring......good thing I ordered 2. now very careful and got it installed. all pistons are loaded in the block and torqued. timing cover on, oil pump pulled apart and cleaned. might be able to set in frame tonight.

progress? Vintage Torque Fest is Apr 30th. not sure I'll make it in the Buick. its about 450 mile trip for me. I'll be there either way. best to have a car there though.

this is a rough estimate on rebuild cost. made a quick calculated spreadsheet for different venders. I priced every option from each vender. this is what I ended up ordering from. there is also a lot of misc items like fluid and filters not attached.
excel will not load. here is PDF

Nice,
I have not really calculated on my 320 rebuild and I have not received the invoice for the boring etc. But if you include sourcing a new(used) crank, a set of connecting rods, the 1941 dual manifolds etc I think the rebuild is somewhere in the 5000 usd area . Feels like the total cost would have been much less if I lived in another country(not sweden)
wow, Wacker. against everything I do at work I am going the Cheap route.
Got the head on finally work has been busy with planting/ spraying season. Usedpeanut butter on bottom of head on bolts and ultra black on LH bolt threads. Also used CAT 152-2029 gasket sealant on head gasket. rocker shaft is also on. maybe fire it up by the weekend?

my luck.....went to install my original exhaust manifold and it has warped at the rear port. went to use another spare and the center flange bolt holes are stripped. so, onto the next spare and the bolts are broken off in it. now, which one to waste time on? maybe I'll just heli coil the second one?

Maybe not helpful at this point, but I had a machine shop resurface both the exhaust manifold and the manifold side of the head. That allowed use of oiled graphite rather than an exhaust gasket (per original Buick practice). And I did have to helicoil the hole for one stud that had broken off decades earlier and had to be drilled out.
studs are fine and I had my manifolds resurfaced. my issue now is that the rear exh port is higher than the rest. it actually does not line up with the port. the holes I need to repair are at the triangle exh port where the heat exchanger would go....I eliminated it a couple years ago.
