    .010 Main Bearings

Does anybody by chance have a set of .010 undersize main bearings for a 320? The usual suppliers don't seem to have any in stock and can't say when they will be getting any. We have the whole shop tied up with piles of parts waiting. Any ideas? Doug

I have bought Buick parts from Terrill Machine for many years and have always been happy with their quality of their parts, good service, fair price and very knowledgable. They are also fair about their shipping costs. I have read that the original owner Feltz has a collection of Buicks.

    Hi Doug,
Its for the racer i think ?
What is happen to the bearings? Damage on the Crank too ?
Why you have found the worn bearings, was there a beginning bad noise or only routine check of the groundbearings ?

No damage to the race car. These are for the 51 Buick Street Rod that my race partner has. We were just learning about the engines when he built it and it had some excess clearance and when the engine is warm it has reduced oil pressure. Since he has time this Winter he decided to go through the engine and fix some issues. Thanks to the people here on the site he founf that Terrill machine is knowlegable and said that there are no .010 bearings currently available. He is having the crank turned down to .020 and bearings are available. As I understand the story, the main bearing supplier will only take orders in quantities of 500 sets or more in various sizes. If somebody orders them they will be sitting on a lot of bearings for a long time. I doubt that there are 500 engines being rebuilt in 10 years. If I'm wrong in my thinking correct me. Doug

Went with the 0.020 on my build to. Egge told me that they were able to got 0.010 but after waiting for some time I got tired of it and went with what they had. I will machine my crank anyway.

We always re-babbot and bore our bearing shells to the desired size. You can get mains re-babboted from guys that do that for around 200.00 also.
