    conectingrods 248 streight 8

oure engine builder want the insertype cenectingrods in stead off babbit style rods.
i did read that the 1948 do have the inserttype of conectingrods.

    kanter sells conversionskits of these.

do i mill out the babit style rods to inlaytype?
or must i seek the 48- insertype conectingrods.

if so where can i find those insertype conectingrods to fit a 1939 stamped 248 engine in a 40ies buick special 40.

    Connecting rods conversion

Yes, it is possible to machine the poured rods to accept the standard Buick insert rods. When machining make sure the rod cap is attached to the rod as it goes in the engine, see the arrow on the casting. Past experience speaking

    Insert type connecting rods

When the engine in my '39 series40 was rebuilt about 20 years ago, the shop used rods that came from a '50 special.
Very hard to find now. I think the insert type rods for the 248 were only used from about mid-year in 1949, and then the 248 in 1950 (only in the special). The 1950 super used the new 263. Probably easier to have your old rods machined for inserts type bearings than trying to find used rods from 1949-1950. If I am wrong on these dates, someone let me know.

    Bore rod to what size??

Hello All, I have a 1941 248 2 carb engine and would like to convert my rods to insert type. Can anyone tell me what diameter I need to finish the rod bore to? I have the machinery to perform the boring, just need info on size. Thanks, Jeff
