It looks like it is a 1937 248 cu in engine.
The 1937 40 series serial numbers are 3166225 to 3396936 and are preceded by a 4
The only 2 engines available in 1937 are the 248 and 320.
The 60, 80 and 90 series were 320s
The 248 head is about 31.5 inches while the 320 head is around 34.5 inches long.
