That is easier said than done. Those old buick transmissions have an interesting set of shift levers. You will probably have to watch ebay for an old shifter set up. Maybe someone else has better input...
would like to change my 51 special from column to floor shifter wondering if anyone could recommend to me a shifter to buy, thanks

thats what ive found out lately,i was hoping someone would have some input about it
As you already found out, this is a selector gearbox, and an ordinary floor shift won't work on it. Aftermarket shifters for this box were made by Hurst and others at one time, but the last of these disappeared off the market around 40 years ago.
Your best bet might be to look for a 5 bolt transmission from a 1938 or earlier Buick, Olds or Pontiac. What you are wanting is the top shifter, so make sure it is all there and works ok. This shifter assembly will replace the stock cover plate on your present transmission once you remove the internal shift parts from the case. Don't forget to plug the holes in your case where the original shifter shafts went through.
