    A 320 I8 for A 263 I8

    Hello I have A qeustion is It A lote of work to buildt A 320 I8 In to my buick 40Serie 1940 thats have A 263 I8.
    In first I wantend to buildt A v8 In It that was cheaper for Me.
    Because my 263 I8 hase cracks in the cylinder Ports bud my mybe I have found A 320 I8 from the 50,S In holland.
    And I am more A Man for the Original Style whit A litel tweek on the Engine.

    A320 for a 263

    The 320 is 4 inches longer than the 263
    Everything is different between the Roadmaster series and the super and special series.
    A real mechanic might be able to make it work.

    I've heard of people doing it...the thing is, even a 263 it kind of tight in there lengthwise. I think you'd need an electric fan on the front of the radiator, and you may even need to relocate the radiator to the front of the support. It would be cool though! Nobody would know but an old Buick guy or gal.

    Thanks I think I do It A straight 8 Is cool.
    Bud can I use the Orginal tranny for the Engine?
    The rest I whil manace whit the electric fan and the nose.
    I no A littel bit of cars I had A Jeep cj5 And A lot of more cars.
    Bud thits diffrend A straight 8 bud I can lurn here A hope On this forum

    As a general rule... the 263 and 248 CID straight 8 Buicks had a 5 bolt top cover on the transmission (light duty). The 320 CID straight 8 Buicks had a 6 bolt top cover on the transmission (heavy duty). The HD tranny is 2.5 incles longer than the LD one. There's a bit of fabrication to mate the dissimilar tranny to the opposing bellhousing. Extra bolt holes are required and either lengthening or shortening the driveshaft (torque tube) will be required.

    I plan on placing a HD tranny behind my 263. I'll need to add a couple bolt holes to the bellhousing and go with a 2.5" shorter torque tube assy.

    Placing a 320 in a chassis designed for a 248 or 263 can be done, but it requires fabrication and relocation of the radiator. The LD tranny probably will not stand up to the 320's torque.

    Are your 263's cylinder walls cracked or just the ports in the head? If it's just the head, go find a late model 248 or 263 head. They are basically the same head.

    the cylinder walls are cracked I think its don whit the 263.
    bud I hope the 320 is not solled A Man is looking for the 320 for me.
    He no,s where It whas I hope It,s there than I can begin to fabricate.
    The Engine is than from buick what I like and It makes more horsies.
    Whit some help from me to tune up the Engine A littel bit like dual carbs .
    The oldscool stuff thats what I like
