1937 248 timing cover seal question

I am ready to put the timing gear cover on the front of my 248 cu inch engine. I have purchased a front seal that is supposed to seal the cover arround the harmonic balancer. There is no way this seal will fit my into cover. I think it is made for a later year application ( even though it is supoposed to fit my engine ). Does anyone know what type of seal the 1937 248 engine uses? Is it possible that none is used ? Thanks for any help you can provide to help me get my engine rebuilt. It was disassembled when I purchased the car, so I a have no reference as what to it was or should be.

    248 Front engine Seal

There has to be a seal in the front cover, take the cover and the damper to NAPA. Maybe they can help you after they measure the cover, and the damper shaft diameter. National had to make a seal, the measurements should come up with a #

    248 front seal

Thanks for your reply. I bought the seal from Best Gasket co. from their catalogue. There is no way a rubber seal that is metal cased can be used in my `1937 cover. There is no provision in the cover for a seal to be pressed in or for that matter it doesn't look like a rope seal could be used either. I will check with NAPA. In the meantime has anyone ever worked on or replaced a seal on a 1937 248 , or had hands on experience with this predicament. I hate to put my engine together incorrectly. Thanks to all for any help you can give me.
