You will also need an adapter for the DynaFlow crank as the pilot hole is much larger than a standard shift pilot hole.
hello all. long story short, i am having trans issues. does any one know where i can get a rebuild kit or internal parts for a 3 speed synchromesh? my Buick is a 1953 special 41D.I already have a replacement 263.3 in line 8 with the dynaflow, but prefer the manual on the tree. less work than changing columns from standard to prndl. any help appreciated.thanks

Figured i might have to. Rumor at the junk yard was that i should not have to. The "new" 263.3 is from a 1951 Roadmaster. Not too sure if it is the twin or triple turbine, air or oil cooled Dynaflow. I had too pull the crank on the '53 263.3 to remove the bell housing. Not too sure if the crank is good since when the timing went it took the main on cyl. 1, oiling ring, and piston skirt. All the rods, and 2 mechanical lifters. The timing chain had jumped. Still contemplating putting in a 1983 383c.i. Chevy small block, but would prefer to keep her Buick. I already did a 12 volt conversion, and have put A LOT of time and $$$$$$$ into the previous 263. Besides i just enjoy the look and feel of the inline 8
Thanks again for the help, anymore help or advice appreciated

A '51 RoadMaster would have been equipped with a 320 C.I. straight 8. The 5 bolt cover top trans. you have will definitely will NOT hold up to the 320's torque capabilities.
no...... its definitely a 263.3. the 320 is noticeably larger.....the starter, intake/ exhaust, distributer, valve cover i took from the "new" motor and used them in lieu of the parts on the "old"263.3 after my 12v conversion and chroming..... now somebody could have dropped this 263 in the 51, but highly unlikely considering that mike has 2 '51 Roadmasters and they both have identical motors with hydraulic lifters.thanks .

Got a question for you. Where is the serial # on the engine block. If the # is to the rear of the distributor, it is a 320. If the # is in front of the distributor it is a 263. A 263 is not OEM to a (70 SERIES) Roadmaster

these are the pics of the two 51's
here is the motor out of the black car.....now there is a chance that neither could be a Roadmaster. though im sure that neither are specials
Three ventiports would not be a Roadmaster. 320 motor=35 inches long, 263 motor 31 inches long. Twin turbine trans=1959. Triple turbine= later.
[not sure of the year]. Doug
Hi, I'm interested in what you did EXACTLY to convert your car to 12 volt
Thanks
