    Valve stuck

    Hi
I'm new to this forum and could use some advice with regards to my '40 Special. It has a 263 straight 8. When I got it home and started monkeying with the motor, the first thing I did was break a couple of push rods. Not a good begining! I found replacements and started the motor with the valve cover off. One of the ones that broke was on #6, and you guessed it, that valve is stuck open. I've tried spraying around the stem/keeper/spring area with WD and pouring transmission fluid down the carb ,looked at back posts for a tip as to how to get it to close, but so far no luck. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Cheers

No matter what you do that valve guide will probably not seal up.

You could try tapping the vavle with a hammer. Try and get it to move a little then the spring pressure may push it back up. Just keep working it and it may free up.

I have also heard of putting some small rope through the plug hole to take up the space, then turn the engine over and the rope should push the valve closed.
