You can get more power out of a 263, its head is same as the 248. .040" overbore will give you in the neighborhood of 270 CID. All engines respond to basic hop up tricks. Look for a 54 Century to swap gears from. Some of them had 3.41:1 or 3.56: 1 (3.60) ratios. Pay attention to tire diameters when choosing your gear ratios. The better Dynaflow to have is from a 53 Special, it's a twin turbine model. You'll need the matching flex plate to go with that particular tranny and bell housing. The 53 Special's Dynaflow, bell housing, and flex plate are different than all previous applications behind a 248/263 engine. I am told you can use a 56 Dynaflow behind the 53 Special bell housing and flex plate. I haven't confirmed this information. If the tip is factual, and I have no reason to disbelieve my informant, it's the best off all the Dynaflows to use behind a Buick straight 8. Some early 57 Dynaflow trannys may work as well, but the later ones won't. Buick changed the location of the starter ring gear in 57, the torque convertor was changed as well.
