Thread: 248 con rods

    248 con rods

I have been having lots of fun with my 47 Super. When I got it the motor was stuck. Upon disassembly I damaged a couple of the connecting rods. The good thing is I have some spare parts I got from a junk engine. The rods are the same except for some very small differences. They have the same part numbers except one ends in a B16 and the other ends in a B13. Does any one know if I would be able to use these rods to replace the damaged ones in my engine.

    Here are the part nmbers

    1336056 B13
    1336056 B16

    Thanks

    What I have is
    1940 - 50 series 50 (yours) uses 1393617
    1937 - 50 series 40 uses 1393617
    1936 - 52 series 60, 70, 80, 90 uses 1393618

So as long as the doner engine is the smaller one, it should work.

    Smile 248 con rods

Are your rods using poured bearings, or does it have inserts?

I would think there is a different part number for the poured bearing over the inserted bearing.

    Just a thought.

Both rods use insert type bearings. They look almost identical except for some minor casting differences.

Now all we need is the part number for the 248 rod that uses an insert.

1336056 is the casting #. The number after the B is different on all my 248 rods. Those are both the correct rods.

No problem, I'm in the process of rebuilding mine right now because a nut on the big end of # 2 let go... I had to do some digging to find a new one, so that's how I know!!

P.S. I just got your name (I think) your not a Detroiter are you??

No I have never even been to Michigan

My friends would give me a hard time for wearing nothing but carhartt pants. It was sort of a joke but now it is my web handle. I am carhartted all over the web.

I hope to get mine back together and run on the bench in the next few weeks. I put the car outside for the winter but I want to be ready for the spring.

    Thanks

    insert con rods

I read in a buick fan publication on how buick 455 con rod bearings were used on 320" roadmaster poured babbit rods. can somebody check the measurements on the possiblity of this? 455 bearings are not as wide as the 320 rod bearings but are harder material and dont need to be wider, they were used as is, centered on the rod throw. this might lead to finding other insert bearings on babbit bearing 246/263 engines. I dont have access to all the measurements to check this out. I hav seen this done on ford model T and A engines.
