    Another leaking Dynaflow

    Hey all,
I know this has been covered before, but my '53 Special is leaking from the inspection cover on the bellhousing...anything this can be other than a converter seal? I'd rather not drop the trans because it works perfectly other than the leak (and that torque tube makes it a bit of a pain anyway). It leaves about a silver dollar sized drop (or a little bigger) almost every time I park it. It's wet around the inspection cover and bellhousing up by the motor...any ideas?

I had the same problem with my 53 and I added 1 can of transmission sealer which helps soften the seals and it quit leaking. If you do pull the transmission there is a special tool that holds the sprag clutch rollers in place when you take the converter apart. Don't pull the converter apart without that tool or something you make to take it's place. I have not yet found the tool or the specs on the tool to make one.

That's cool...I put a bottle of Lucas in it but I've only driven it around town on short trips...do you remember the brand name of sealer you used? Thanks!

No but I think all of them use the same formula.

    Hi Both of you..
I am experiancing a puddle wherever I stop but it looks like engine oil.
Having not touched the car mechanically yet....could this be from the gearbox?
it is coming from the rear of the engine/front of the gearbox, almost the flywheel area.
    Cheers,
    Spence

If it looks like engine oil it may be the rear seal leaking but before doing anything else make sure the breather (on the right side of the engine for a straight eight) is clear.

I had a similar problem and i thought it was the torque converter, but it turned out to be oil from the valve cover leaking down the backside of the block and onto the inspection cover.

Is the leak outside or inside your bell housing? Could be coming from the filler tube...

I don't think it's the filler tube...it seems to be dripping from inside the bellhousing...I'm going to make sure this weekend that the drain plug for the converter isn't loose, and I'll check out the filler tube too.
