Ok i got 2 pair of 54 322 v8 heads. Both are rebuildible. N e ways I have been told that i can put the 322v8 heads on my 55 265v8... i also am noting that my 55 265v8 is from a late model as in.. it was one of the last 55's made. I have heard that these are just a tad bit different than the early 55's. N e ways I just want to know if i can and do put these 322 heads on my late 55 265v8 , would i need to replace the exhaust manifolds also or could i keep my 265v8's on there?
All 53 to 56 manifolds will bolt up and the ports line up with all 53 to 56 heads (intake and exhaust). The 53 to 56 castings all will bolt up but some have the combustion chambers machined different, I was told 53 has bigger piston dome but haven't seen this first hand. The 56 has the exhaust area relieved for better flow thus lowering compression with 55 piston, but they have higher domes. The late 55 motor will have a pressed on rod at piston pin (like 56) and early 55 has clamp on with bolt (like 54). 54 & 55 Special motor is a 264 by the way, same stroke as the 322 motor smaller bore. Do not interchange 56 cam lifters, push rods and distributor gears with earlier motors (different metals) unless you change them all as a set.
