What type of gas tank comes on the 1996 buick century, plastic or metal? I dont exactly feel safe with plastic if thats the case, so does anybody know of an alternative design(metal) available through a third party?

most OEM replacement gas tanks are made of metal, but i think the tanks made for newer cars are now being made out of ABS plastic.
why do you have a problem with a plastic gas tank?
if anything, they're safer than steel since they don't conduct static electicity and won't spark if the metal is impacted.
The plastic they're using now is 1/4" thick tough plastic, you really don't have anything to worry about.

Just nervousness I guess . Saw a wreck with a car on fire that had a plastic tank. the tank melted as a result of the already present fire and all the fuel poured out underneath the car creating a fire ball. Small chance of the events manifesting themselves again under different cicumstances, but just the thought of that in my head make sme a little nervous, i know that wouldnt happen with a metal tank. thanx for the reply.
