The filter adaptor will make it easier to get filters, and the only thing you need to do is keep the RPM under 5500 and change the oil and filters, and it will live as long as you
Hi, All:
I just bought a 1940 Ford with a 1956 Nailhead installed. Being 25 years old, I'm really not that familiar with these engines (only what I've been reading about on the Net), to say the least.
I have a quick question or two:
1.) I've read about installing an oil filter adaptor so that modern spin-on filters can be used. Is this advisable?
2.) Any other tips or tricks regarding maintaining/caring for this engine? It was rebuilt in the 60's, and has very low mileage. Runs perfectly, and I want it to stay that way.
Thanks so much!

Hi, Justyn,
I see that You are a New Member. Welcome Aboard! Those Filter Adaptors Will Run You about 50 Bucks plus Shipping. Sometimes You can Get them on E-bay from time to time. Do not use ANY Fram Filters. I have heard of too many Failures with that particular Brand. The Motor You have is a Nailhead 322 '56 was the best and last year for the 322. They came in two versions a 2 barrel with 8.9 to 1 CR 220 hp and the 4 Barrel 9.6 to 1 CR with 255 hp. Both very quiet, strong, dependable Buick Motors. The Buick Century was the Fastest Production Car Manufactured in 1956 with a 322 4 barrel. The 322 was put into many chevy and GMC Tandem Wheeled Trucks because of its High Torque at low rpm's for it's era.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the warm welcome. It seems as though the adaptor would be a good investment. By the way, it is the 4 barrel 255 HP motor.
I look forward to utilizing this board for any of my questions in the near future.
Thanks a million,

Justyn,
Just keep the Shinney Side Up and the Rubber Down.

do a google search on "oil filter adapter" for a quick look of the choices available.
i have used the piece from minnesota for a number of years now and have been very satisfied with its performance.
That's the one I am getting. Is the install as easy as it looks?
Thanks!
