    Hello,
I'm in need of help. i'm trying to locate the temperature sender on the engine block....i think. my temperature gauge doesn't work. my uncle seems to think that the sender is probably bad or isn't hooked up at all. but the thing is i can't seem to find it on the motor. it's electrical right? i have a 55 buick century w/a 322 nailhead. open to all suggestions and or help.

    thanks,

    Travis,
    It's not electrical.

Look at the rear of the driver's side valve cover. Just below the valve cover, on the inside edge of the cylinder head and just behind the intake manifold, you'll see the temp probe, screwed into a threaded hole. It's a small probe that's filled with a liquid and has a flexible tube running out of it to the gage. There's a wire wrapped around it to prevent damage to it - looks like a spring.

Sorry for the poor description. If you can't locate it, let me know and I'll take a pic or two and post them.
