Thread: Buick Rallyes on Early Nailheads

    Question

I'm wanting to mount 5 on 5 Buick "Rallye" wheels on my '60 (also 5 on 5 bolt pattern), BUT I'm concerned about hub clearance. The '60 measures at a shade over 3 3/8" hub diameter...the newer full-size Rallyes are harder to measure but look to be more like 3" to 3 1/4" ....Any thoughts?

Whoops! I meant to place this in "Nailheads" or "Drivelines"

Hi you can have a machine shop enlarge the inner bore,be sure they clear on the outer area on the front. On the back another option is to pull the rear axles and turn the raised area to the correct dimension. Also the front hubs can be turned down to fit. Either solution could somewhat expensive. you didn't say what year rallys you wanted to use.
possably the 63 to 66 cat or electra with drum brakes will fit the early hubs.

    hope this helps.

I'm not sure the vintage of the Rallyes I have my eye on - I think they came off a '69 LeSabre but I'm not postive. It's a junkyard (possibly a mixed up set) set of five and I haven't had a chance to check for number codes..I only know they are 15" 5x5 and all five LOOK the same. My engine is not quite back together so I haven't been able to drive the car to the yard to try out a wheel..
    Thanks

You can take an air grinder and grind flats on the hub and axle pilots that correspond to the flats on the inside of the road wheels. It takes a while to make sure that you get the wheel to fit flat against the drum, but it works just fine. I ran the road wheels on my 57 Caballero wagon ,and they looked great! I do not believe any of the road wheels will fit without some modification, and if you turn too much off the inside of the wheel ,you will weaken it too much. By girnding flats, you still have a strong hub.
