    55 buick fuel pump

We have had our fuel pump rebuilt and ready to put it back on the car, but it doesn't seem to want to go back in the lever hits something and keeps it from going all the way in. Thought it would go in as easy as it came out. Do you have to force it over the cam? Didn't have a problems on another fuel filter I did years ago. Any tips? We did bump the engine a few times, but didn't help.

You are probably hitting the High Spot on the fuel pump Eccentric. Try turning the engine with a ratchet a little at a time, and try fitting the fuel pump, eventually youll find the low spot and the pump should almost slide right in. Youll probably feel like its sitting a little crooked (up and down) when you have it all the way in. That means the arm is sitting on top of the eccentric. Then spin the motor quickly by hand and listen to hear if you hear the fuel pump making noise that means it engaged, and will work. Mine made like a squeaky kind of groaning noise, you can hear the noise by moving the leaver up and down before you install it. Then hook your lines back up.
