have you contacted the vendor and verified that they simply didn't forget to include the plunger in your unit? that doesn't sound right that they didn't send one in it.
Hey guys, I'm trying to replace the starter solenoid on my '55 special 264. The one that I purchased didn't come with a plunger type piece (see pic) on the end that the original one has. I'm trying to figure out how to remove this part from the original solenoid and install it into the new solenoid. I'd also be willing to purchase a different solenoid if anyone knows where I can get a complete one ready to bolt on to the starter. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The plunger comes out,not a part of the solenoid.Yours might be rusted in.

Hey Jamie,
thanks for the response, it was very helpful. The car I recently bought hasn't ran in a long time and wouldn't start. I pulled the starter and determined that the solenoid was bad. It was in such bad shape that I had to cut the old solenoid apart to retrieve that "bullet" piece. It now turns over with the ignition. Tomorrow Ill give it some fuel and see if she'll fire up!
I should have mentioned to grease it with silicone before you re-installed it.
