The rear seal can be replaced WITHOUT removing the engine.

I'm pulling the engine on my 54 special to replace the rear seal and clutch. should I remove the transmission from the engine before removing the engine, or can I pull them together. I already have the rear axle pulled back and the rad removed. Thanks

Yeah I saw that post a while ago . I'm afraid that my shoulders wont let me work in that position for that long anymore. Sitting on an engine stand is where it will be done.Originally Posted by telriv
