Thread: '63 401 into a '60 ?

    '63 401 into a '60 ?

Will it bolt straight up if I leave the Dynaflow in place, rather than changing to an open drive ? My existing motor needs a rebuild and I can buy a '63 motor in good running order for a reasonable price, so would like to swap them over while the original is rebuilt.

Check the oil pan on both engines. I'm not sure what year Buick changed from rear sump to mid sump.

The '63 is a mid sump pan. While the '60 is a rear sump pan. You CANNOT use the '60 oil pump & screen on the '63 engine as the oil pump mounting is different. As is the oil pick-up screen. You could use the '60 pan on the '63, but you will need a rear sump oil pick-up screen to fit the '63 pump.
    Understand???

Note: I carry the oil pick-up screens in stock.

So basically, the answer is no, without a bit of modification to the sump, which then involves changing the oil pickup.

You are just talking about an oil pan gasket & a pick-up. I don't think it can be any more simple a bolt-in as that!!!!
