    425 Nailhead Oil Pressure Sensor

    Hello to you "HANDS ON" Hobbiests.

    My 1964 Oil Sensor Light is suspect (awkward location above Bell Housing); have purchased replacement (BWD S320).

    (1)What's the easiest removal/replacement access point?
    I've left some skin behind trying (unsuccesfully) from top. Any better from below?

    (2) Special tool recommended? Sizing? Seems a 1 1/16" socket is too large, and 1" too smallMetric?, or??

    Oil pressure sending units take a special socket. It shouldn't be too tough to find one, I think most large chain parts stores can probably fix you up with one. I don't believe that there is any magic procedure or position for replacing the sender. You just have to go through whatever monkey motion it takes to get it in and out.

    oil sender.....

    I have used channel lock pliers on them.....also a wrench on the stem its self works too.... if I had all the skin back on me that I have skinned off on cars down thru the years, I would look like one of those char pei dogs.... come to think of it , I do any way....

    You can also use the plumber's "under sink" wrench. they open wide enough to grip the sensor, and they have a nice long handle on it.

    Your Kind Suggestions/Replies

    Thanks to all of you who "came to my rescue".
    By the time I read "WildKitty's" suggestion of trying the Plumber's Wrench, I'd already purchased a 3/8" drive socket. What a neat idea, and I have one of those in my tool box ---- just getting too old to think innovatively I s'pose.
    Now that I have a new Sender, and the tool wherewith to remove/replace it, I hope that this will correct the problem (light will extinguish when motor is running). Yes ------ lots of nice clean oil in the sump.Will give 'er a try tomorrow.

    Good not to see the "idiot light" glowing on the dash.
    Thankfully, the problem was just a defective sensor--- thanks to your suggestions, I acquired the appropriate socket,and was able to R&R it within minutes.

    She's now ready for a local Show-n-Shine next week end.
