    Fuel line

    I own a 67 skylark v8 300 2bbl. My question is ''What is the correct size "carb to pump" fuel line that should be on this car. When I
    took off the old carb ( Rochester #7027044 2gc ) the fuel inlet line was 5/16 o.d. with a 1/2 in nut/fitting. Now I have the new rebuilt carb ( same number ) and the fuel inlet opening is for a 5/8 nut/fitting with a 3/8 o.d fuel line. This seems like a big opening for such a little carb. Won t this just waste / dump more gas into the carb. It seems overkill. Does anyone know a website/manual that has info/specifics/pics.

    it's the responsibility of the float needle to keep excess fuel from flowing into the carb bowls. the diameter of the line shouldn't have anything to do with how much the bowls get filled at idle, that's mostly a function of fuel pump pressure vs float level.

    large ID fuel lines help insure that you don't empty the bowls at WOT or hard cornering and start to lean the engine out. i would suspect that they also help prevent vapor lock.

    The original 5/16 OD line should be more than enough for your engine.

    I'd just use a reducer/adapter; 3/8" to 5/16". not that ALL that different (1/16"), but saves from installing new fuel lines.

    the float needle valve will adjust the incoming fuel.

    I rebuilt the 2bbl on my 300 (LeSabre). haven't got it all back together yet, so will see how well I did once I fire it up. I have some help coming to help with all the heavy stuff (heads, etc).
