    364 camshaft in 322

    Short question.

I need a new camshaft and I was offered used but very good cam in 364 engine. Does 364 cam fitt to my -55 322 nailhead.

    Thanks.

NO. The journals are TOO small.

Ari, I must correct myself. YES!!!! The cam from a 364 will fit your '55/322. The journals are larger on the 364 cam & will have to be turned down to match the diameter of the '55 cam. It will make a reasonable performance boost for a 322. Also, your original cam is billet steel. The 364 cam is cast. You will also need a distributor gear to match the 364 cam. Any distributor gear from a '56/322/364/401/425 will work as they are all the same. Sorry for the confusion.

Ok, Thank You Tom. Now I´m more confused

Which is the best way now? Buy a new cam + lifters (makes little bit over $300) or use used 364 cam and lifters and try to find new distributor / distributor gear? Can I use old pushrods? And is it possible to change just a gear to my old 1955 distributor?

Anybody knows where I can find new gear in my distributor???

I live in Finland, and there is no places where to buy nailhead parts, so I have to start looking at usa shops. Quick looking at rock-auto catalog gives no answer.
