Thread: Timing Chain Gasket Question

    Timing Chain Gasket Question

I have just bought a timing chain cover gasket set for a 401 nailhead engine and I have a gasket question.
The gasket for the bottom of the timing chain cover seems to be correct as far as alignment, but is too long on the ends.
Should I drop or lower the pan.....or.....cut the gasket to fit? The original gasket left no clues when I removed the cover?
    Thanks

For this car I am not sure, but I know that on other engines I have trimmed to size as needed......... but you should reference your shop manual if you have one

Clean the area really good with brakleen or some other fast drying solvent. Then use silicone where the gasket ends meet after trimming to size.
