Q-Jets are pretty basic and easy to rebuild. Be extremely careful not to strip the fuel filter nut or to make it too tight when you put it back together. That's the number one way to turn it into a paperweight. If your carb's old, those threads in the body may be corroded. If so, take the kit back and go buy a new carburetor. Optionally, you can bond the nut into the body- leave the filter out- and put in an inline filter.

Pay close attention to the weight of the float. If your car is loading up- running real rich, but the choke is open- the float could be saturated. I'm not sure what they should weigh, but you can find that info.

Be careful not to push the needle valve into the seat. The resilient tip of the needle will be compressed. That will at least cause your float level to be wrong, and tou may ruin it. Individual service parts can be purchased at carburetor shops.

Before you do anything, spray some carb cleaner at the springs on the throttle shaft on the driver's side, while the engine is idling. If the idle speed changes significantly, the bore that the throttle shaft rotates in is worn. In that case, just take it to a carb rebuilder; they can repair that. That takes special tools that aren't worth your buying unless you are going into the biz.
