My '93 Park Avenue (non-supercharged) has gone through three throttle position sensors in the last two years or so. The first two were obtained from the parts store and replaced by a friend, the last one was a GM part, installed by the dealership. They all fail the same way, when the car is idling such as when stopped for a traffic light, or waiting in a drive-thru line. It will be idling and running fine, then the tell-tale white smoke starts coming from beneath the hood for a minute or so. Then, after a few miles, the "service engine soon" light pops on, and I begin getting fast ilde speeds at various times, especially on the first start of the day. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas what could be causing this? I have no diagnostic equipment, so I am pretty much at a loss, and will be at the mercy of the dealership when I take it in for repair.
Voltage spike? Ive had em fail on other cars.. but yours did it more than mine..
