    1997 Skylark Intake Manifold

I had filled the coolant and 3-4 weeks later it was gone.
Yesterday afternoon I checked the dipstick and the oil was light metallic brown(no white milky substance). Looked like what I would expect from orange Dex-Cool mixed in. But this morning the oil looked normal.

Also someone mentioned replacing the cap. I would not lose that much coolant so soon with just a defective cap, would I?

I can probably do the intake manifold gasket and I think I know where it is :-) It is the unit that connects right to the large hose connected to the air filter? I have a Hayne's manual but they are very, very poor in pictures. Also if I picked the location right then that is just the cover for the intake manifold - yes?

Is there anyplace oline with decent pictures?

Also I am assuming that if it is the lower manifold gasket, the engine would have to be hauled? The same if it is a head gasket?

Most times I do my own, plugs and fluid changes etc... I just need a good reference. Thanks.

Most common problem is the lower intake gasket .. and does not require eng. O.H.
But you should check to see if it's covered under warr. at the dealer ..some were under a recall .
If you car is not covered then get a estimate to replace the lower intake manifold gaskets ,from at least 3 shops ( make sure they have done this before .. you do not need them to learn on yours LOL ) this is not an easy repair unless you have replaced intake manifolds and adjusted valves etc. before ..Good luck

is there an official recall site?
i checked 3 general sites and there were no manifold recalls for the skylark from '95 - '98.

i wanted to find out before i get in touch with a dealer.
