Help with I.D. of engine year

I,ve looked and looked but can't seem to find these numbers. The stamped number on the block reads VI648735- the dash means it's 0.10 o.s. from the factory the head casting number reads 1343388-1 intake reads 1343965-1. Any help. I have a 56 322 in my 23 T Bucket and I found the number for it , just haveing a real hard time with this other engine.
    Thanks Dave

The I in the engine stamping tells us it is a 62. The only Nailhead in 62 was the 401. So it is either a 401 10:1 compression 4 bbl engine or a 401 9:1 compression 2 bbl.

The I does stand for '62, but can't find a V engine code in my '62 manual.
Only codes in the manual are 2, L2, 4, L4.
2 stands for 2 barrel, 4 for 4 barrel, and the L for low compression.

Have you double checked the numbers?

I've often found that what I thought I read and what the numbers could be and what they really are -- well , you get the idea.

Rub them with something to clean them up, use a pencil or marker to highlight them, etc. Use a good bright light and look at each number and wonder "What could that be?"

I've got a truck load of cranks and have had to read some of the numbers three times before I got something useable.

    good luck!
