    Good afternoon,
I just put my crankshaft back in to my '55 special (again) and I'm trying to make sure I have the timing chain installed the correct way.I've done this before and I have the shop manual,I'm just having a bad day.I've got to make sure # 1 & 4 pistons are at TDC,and I can't get started on figuring out where #'s 1 & 4 are located .Is # 1 the first piston on the drivers side?I know this is a stupid question, but I am having a frustrated day. Thanks in advance for helping me.

my Motor's Auto Repair Manual says that odd numbered cylinders are on the pass side and even numbered cylinders are on the drivers side. #1 is furthest forward on pass side, next to the radiator. #4 is the 2nd cylinder back on drivers side.

    firing order is 1 - 2 - 7 - 8 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 3. distro rotation is clockwise.

there should be clips fore and aft on the distributer with #6 and #3 straddling the forward clip.

that piston numbering is kind of weird. practically all the 'modern' GM stuff is odd numbers on the drivers side.

Iddie, don't forget, the alignment marks are not like normal. You need to count the links on the timing chain to line up marks. PAY ATTENTION TO THE MANUAL!!!!!!
