Yes, you should have a gasket there. Not super critical, but I would replace it.
 
Thank you! So glad to find this site. Im also new to vintage Buicks and definitely not a mechanic but know a few basics. Anyone know where to get that filter assembly to carb. gasket? I looked on the CARS website and its hard to tell which one is the right one. There is not an old one on my car now so I don't know what one would look like. Can anyone tell me?

Best I remember that gasket is just about as thick as a cereal box. I would just buy some gasket material, in a sheet, at the parts store and cut one. As Bob said, not too critical.

Thanks Ben, Havnt seen one so will get to studying the surface and try and figure how to make it. If anyone has a photo of the proper gasket or can draw a simple image of the shape I would so appreciate it.
