I am surprised!

I posted a question a week ago about adapting a 364 to a Chevy Muncie 5 spd. Did not get one response. I'm new to the Buick fraternity. Am I in the right place???
Here's another.
Is the bell housing on the 364 different from either the earlier,...or later Nailheads? I have come up with an adapter, Nailhead to early Ford but worry that diff. Nailheads may have diff. bellhousings as there were diff. transmissions over the life of this engine.

there are different Nail patterns but i'm not up on when the pattern changed.

adapting a 364 to a Chevy Muncie 5 spd.

as long as it can change the bell housing on the trans it shouldn't be that big of a problem.

tips

Just so you know, the Chevy Muncie 5-speed you would like to use does not have a removable bell housing like earlier transmissions. Therefore, you would need an adapter for Chevy automatics to nailhead, and still would have to come up with a pilot bushing or bearing that fits either the adapter crank spacer or the crankshaft itself.

If you wanted an automatic (which it seems that you do not) I have a ST 400 core listed in the classifieds. This is just like a turbo 400 but bolts directly to a nailhead, although it still requires a crank adapter for pre-64 nailheads, which all 364's are.

Good luck!

P.S. The Tremec TKO 5-speeds, which physically interchange with the T5, are strong enough for that nailhead torque, but could be adapted to a nailhead straight drive bellhousing, if you already have one.

P.P.S. The GM Muncie 5-speed is not as great as they may seem. Check out this link: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/archive/index.php/t-215637.html

#2 I think I got it
Thanks everyone for the info and opinions.
Some of the stuff I knew. Most I did not.
I have a Hot Rod with a 350 Chevy and the Muncie 5 spd. Don't know the mileage before I got it but I've put on 40k with no problems. I like the manual and the OD. I bought a sweet running 364 with hopes of dropping it in the Hot Rod, with minimal work, since the trans mount and engine location were already fixed. Guess that idea just won't fly.
I do have a T-5 with adapters to a Hemi. The "adaption" is via one piece being Hemi to Ford, second piece being Ford to Chev. I figure I can slip a Buick to Ford piece in place if the Hemi to Ford piece to hook the T-5 to the Nail.
You have answered my question 'bout diff. bell housings. Now I just gotta figure how to ID the adapter that I have seen for sale locally.
