There is not a "correct" electric fuel pump because they were never offered. Any aftermarket online pump will do.
My opinion is not going to be good, because I am old and quite happy with the way things were put together in the day and find fixing the original parts works well.
In the tank is best, otherwise as close to the tank as possible.
Thanks! Of course I agree with you about trying to keep things original. I ended up placing a small Holley near the tank. I still have the mechanical running on the car as well, but it does need rebuilding. I tried to find parts to get it rebuilt but have not located them yet. One day I will. I like the car because, as you said; every "old" thing about it reeks of quality!
