'52 Special Split Window?

We have a '52 Buick Special with a split window, which we've had some trouble finding information on. Wondering if anyone knows what different makes and models may be interchangeable with this year. I know we can find a full windshield easier, but would like to stay split if we can manage!

'52 Buick Special

Karen, welcome to our little Buick world. A '52 with two piece windshield? A picture would be helpful. Also a picture of the data plate that you will find on the passenger side on the cowl.

Thank you for your welcome! We are really excited about this project!

Here are some pictures. Some from the ad we got it from, the other is where it's at right now. It was used in the Steven King series 11.22.63, and was flipped on its side so a little banged up!

We decoded everything and it does show its a 52, but everyone we've talked to are very confused on the dual windshield.

Appreciate any help!

Ahaww, A Canadian car. Things CAN get confusing. As far as I know, with the exception of one Model, can't recall the Mod #, 1950 Special was the last two piece windshield. In the US. All bets are off for Canada.

Except for the windshield, I would have said '51, if asked. What Engine does it have?

Interesting find. Stay with us

Ben

It's a 263 Straight 8.

I'm not shocked hearing that. It's been an adventure talking to people about it. Someone else we talked to swore it was a '51 by the way it looks as well, but the numbers don't say so? Was told that there should be fins on the back of a '52, and there are no holes for them (we did pick some up from a scrap yard in FL last week). They removed all the chrome trim for the shoot too so its not in the picture. ed07684e74882dd309a291a3e08917f2.jpg

For what its worth, I have a picture showing two 1951 Canadian Buicks. One is marked 41 and one is marked 41D. The 41 has a split windshield, the 41D does not.

Mrjimo

Hello Karen, welcome to the world of Canadian cars. I own a 52 'Custom' Deluxe 4 Door sedan, the equivalent of a Special in the states. From research on line for my own car, your car is an early production Custom that may not have ever had the rear fender crowns or sweepspear side mouldings. Some of the Buick literature of the day implies that the base model you have (non Deluxe) was produced without it. As well, I would also expect that the plant in Oshawa would take the liberty of pushing through the two piece windshield body simply because it was the very base model at the time and the older parts had to be used up. My car has the one piece windshield and all the chrome bits you are missing but my production number is about 3300 more than yours and is the Deluxe version.
