I need help with engine specs

I have found that I have a 1964 buick 300ci. I can not find the numbers on the block to identify the specs. I need to know the compression ratio and cam size. It appears to still be original. The heads and intake are aluminum and it is a 4 barrel rochester carb. The pistons are flat on top. Does this mean it is the 9:1 or is it the 11:1 engine. I would appriciate any help or lead where to find the specs for this engine. Thanks, Jeff

Find the two letter production code in the location described here. KL is the 2bbl 9:1 compression engine, KM is the low compression (7.6:1) 2bbl export engine and KP is the 4bbl 11:1 compression engine. I think the flat tops and the 4 bbl intake make it a KP.

I just picked up a '64 Skylark with a freshly rebuilt 300 and I can't find the K* number on the block. The guy sold the heads and intake so all I have is the lower end.

heh. you don't believe in making things easy for us, do you?

i believe the compression difference is in the pistons (that's how Buick did all of the 350's) but i have no idea which piston or dishes you should be looking for.

    lol!

It's a complete short block, .030 stamped on top of the pistons... number on the block matches my serial number so that's cool. I was thinking about a later model 350/350 but with a fresh rebuild and 355ci now I will keep this one I think.

It says B1357943 and F 18 on top of the block by the rear where the trans bolts on.

actually, it's kind of interesting that he sold the intake/carb. there's virtually no interest in the 2v setup for these engines so that would tend to imply a 4v.

Yeah it was a 4v. I didn't want the motor at first but he threw it in after selling the heads and intake.

    Yeah it was a 4v.

then it's almost certain to be the hi-comp engine. oy vey!

(too be fair, there was an export 4v that was low comp)
