3" exhaust is a custom size I believe?!!
Im buying a set of 1 5/8 x3 inch collector headers. my car has dual 2 1/2 inch exhuast. can i still use this exhuast with the headers? i know i will have to cut the pipes but other than that what else? its a 71 skylark with 350-4 and stock exh. mans. right now.

3" is HUGE. a muffler shop friend of ours didn't want to put 3" pipes on our 455 electra.
it's very possible that your 350 will be to small for those pipes.

I have this same size header (1 5/8" x 3") from T/A performance on my 1970 Skylark Conv. When I bought the headers they came with a 3 bolt flange reducer. This reducer went from the 3" collector to 2 1/2" pipe. IF you stay with this pipe size back to the mufflers you should be Ok. I put Flowmaster 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" 40 series two chambered style on my car. The ideal situation for mine was off set inlets with center outlets. Flowmaster recommends offsets on both inlet and outlet, but this made it real tight by the differential housing. I also ran 2 1/4" back from the muffler because it was easier to bend going over the differential and then out back to the corner of the rear bumper. It has a very nice sound, not too loud, just right! One other little piece of advice. When installing the headers, slot the middle-bottom hole on the header flange and gasket. You might also want to slot the end holes as well. This makes putting the headers on easier, because you can put the bolt(s) in and then lower the header over them. That middle-bottom bolt is a real bummer to tighten and torque. Good luck!
