    300 4 brl replacement for the 4g

I have a 1964 Lesabre with the 355 wildcat- 300 4brl rochester 4G (i believe). with aluminum intake and heads. does anyone know if an edelbrock 1406 will be a direct bolt on? or is there a special plate i need. i have rebuilt the 4g twice now and still get hesitation off the line. idles fine, accelerator pump seems to work fine, and i can't find any vacuum leaks. just a hard hesitation from a dead stop kicks up good when driving. not to mention it is a cold hearted SOB till warm. thanks. ps i did search many many many threads prior to asking. so be kind.

It has been so long ago now, but I think I needed an adapter plate to run the Edelbrock carb on the aluminum 300 intake. The holes were just a little bit wider and spaced further apart on the aftermarket carb. I think carter had a 500 CFM direct replacement. I have no idea what is available today!

Id try Edelbrock directly. They should be able to tell you what will fit and/or if an adapter is needed. There may be a direct fit carb currently.

I called Edelbrock, and they do not make a direct fit. the closest would be a 1403, 500cfm, but it needs the adapter plate. knowbody around Spokane Wa, seems to know where i can get one. come on guys help me out a little.

I think I found it! It is in the Speedway catalog: part# 135-1935 at $14.95. The description reads: Universal Tapered Port Adapter - Adapts all large and medium based 1 11/16" port Holley or AFB carbs to to smaller base 1 7/16" manifolds. With all hardware and gaskets.

I know the Buick 300 carb had a 1 7/16" bore from my 65 Chassis Service Manual. My Speedway catalog is from 2007, but I am guessing they still have it.

Found a link: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Univer...d-Port,69.html. There is also a B version with different bolt spacing.

The throttle plate just fits. It's the linkage and kick-down switch that takes some doing. 500 cfm is just fine.

    Edelbrock 1406 on a 300ci

Sorry that this is so late but I have been running an Edelbrock 1406 on my 300. Fits fine. Runs OK.

Did you get it sorted out for your engine?
