Hi all!
Newby Buick owner here with a 63 Skylark convertible. I have the aluminum 215 V8 and I'm looking to ditch the points. Any suggestions for an affordable electronic distributor? Thanks!

Dear Jeff,
Do you want to replace the distributor completely or simply get a solid state conversion for your existing distributor? Converter kits aren't as expensive as a complete distributor and certainly eliminate the misery of replacing the points every 3000 miles.
Bob Mando's advice has other advantages though. If you could find a working HEI distributor from an old 350, it is likely to equal or better most conversion kits and be cheaper too. However, you'll have to do some legwork to save money.

Thanks guys! I'm not really looking for performance as much as reliability and consistency. I like the thought of the 350 distributor and I'm checking that link. I also found a Petronix conversion kit that looks good because you keep the original look.
Any suggestions or opinions on which way would be better? Thanks again!
