Just picked up a 68 skylark with a 250 i6 and a st300, car immediately goes into reverse and idles now fine , but when put into drive it doesn't idle down and either slips or just doesn't do anything , it will barely move if you blip the throttle a little. Already dropped the pan and changed the filter out. Any suggestions ?

Not that I know transmissions, but I would tear it down. I don't know what you are describing as "idle down", if you are meaning you are not hearing it drag the idle down the 50 rpm that you usually hear when engaging a transmission, OK.
Sounds to me like it is not pressuring up the forward clutch pack. It's probably not your pump because it pressures up your reverse.

I am thinking forward clutch as well. It could be as simple as the seal and/or worn frictions. It will have to come apart to truly diagnose and repair.
