buicks crest or emblum

Does anyone know what the story behind the crest is? like, what kind of animal and what do the colors mean?

it's the Buick family crest ( David Dunbar Buick, Scot, founder of the company ). the animal is a stag, there are three shields because one of the old logo redesigns was back when Buick only had three nameplates; the Le Sabre, Invicta and Electra.
