12.48 on the motor

i am new to team buick i have a 72 455
.030 gs110 cam roller rockers headers
sp1 intake 850 holley st heads [ported & polished]
i do live at 5700 feet so i am quite happy with
this i have run 11.60 with a 100 horse shot for 8 seconds
I am also wondering what other people us for carb choice
i have been told that 850 is too small with the mods i have
and that 950 would be a better choice. I also run 4.10 gears
with a th350, 4200 stall my 1-2 shift is solid but my 2-3 shift seems
spongy any thoughts i do have a manual valve body

Hey nice combination and runs Buick72racer. What would that be corrected to sea level. If you have a 10" converter stalling at 4200 it is by nature pretty loose. I had a similar issue and went to a 9" ATI. I have not used it yet, but ATI thought it would be worth 2 10ths in my case. A 1/2"-1" spacer under your carb may help you pick up something, and a 1050 cfm Dominator or having your 850 upgraded to a 990 would not be a bad idea. The 990 upgrade may be best for you since you have the square flange, but the Dominator is better for dedicated racecar. I picked up a 10th by having my 850 (4781) upgraded to a 990 by the Carb Shop 5 or six years ago. I did this back to back with an out of the box 1050 Dominator using a crappy flange adapter, and it ran the same as my 990 square bore. I am sure a little more tuning on the Dominator would have picked up more.

suspension

i just recently installed lift bars which made a huge difference
along with boxed uppers the car takes off quite well my next step
will be moroso rear spring and drag shocks i already have drag shocks
on the front 90/10 any thoughts?

By lift bars do you mean no hop bars that change the pinion angle and instant center? They are a very good addition. Polyurethane bushings in all of the rear control arms will also help your launch and reduce hop. You may wan to add air bags in the rear sprigs. Load the right one 20# heavier then the left to start. 15# and 40# worked best in mine, but I used standard springs and gas shocks. My 60's were in the low 1.5 second range. Also, I would remove the the front sway bar if you haven't. I could not do this as I drove it to the track and back, and the same went for the drag shocks and springs. It still managed 11.20 at 120 though.

shocks

did you just use a standard gas shock or something heavier
i have changed all the bushing to urethane
and the lift bar are the ones that do change the pinion angle
though i was running out of time before racing i just
well, eyeballed it with pinion just slightly down as i think when you launch it
pushes upward and it did take off better. if thats wrong feel free to
straighten that out for me.
thanks
